Dangerous Elephant

The Republican party launches into attack mode with its new National Convention logo. Described as "Babar's evil and dumb cousin who ate wild mushrooms", join the lively discussion on Brand New. I still like the break down by Joe Marianek best.

Napa Sonoma 07

We had an amazing time in California wine country! No lie, we visited 19 wineries and ate awesome, awesome food. Some of the hi-lights include Cyrus, the Iron Horse harvest party and Charbay. Take a peek at my Flickr feed for the photos or for the full family experience, take a look at my Mom's photos on Picasa. Enjoy!

LED Boomerang

I came across this image in Popular Mechanics. At first glance I though it was something out of a Ghostbusters movie (a home spun proton pack maybe?). No no, its not a mad scientist reenacting a scene its a boomerang illuminated with LEDs! The project is that of Aussie Eric Darnell a boomerang pro. Did you know they used to hunt with these things? I somehow doubt the real deal is as impressive as this long exposure photo but who knows, I'd like to try it out.

GPS Drawing

I've always been captivated by GPS drawings particularly those which cast intrinsic meaning on the landscape. Jeremy Wood's GPS drawings are particularly relevant to any discussion of this medium. I'm a particular fan of the dog drawings too. They are more playful and honest than the recent light drawing aesthetic that
Sprint has been using in their marketing. Why? Because they're real!

With that said, if you'd like to take part in a GPS walk of sorts, this Monday October 8th, Columbus Day, Lorenzo Romito (from the Rome based Stalker Lab) will be initiating the NY Peace Walk: In the Footsteps of Paul Auster. The walk will start at the Storefront for Art and Architecture at 10 A.M. and will end at the United Nations Building spelling PEACE along the way.

More information is available on the Storefront for Art and Architecture's web site.

Smoke Signals

Minimaforms the UK architecture and design studio setup 'smoke signals' at the Bristol OFFLOAD festival. The concept sounds poetic, allow festival goers to send text messages into the air with smoke. I'm not sure why but the implementation looks almost evil. Great idea, however, I'm always skeptical of installations which have mass audience input with a singular output. More images from the event are up on the groups Flickr account.
