Get your Zurf on
Today, Yahoo! Research Berkley opened the doors on what is sure to be another great product. Zurfer enables users to view gazillions of photos from their Flickr feed oh so easily. One of the inherent problems with previous attempts, like the Flickr mobile site is that the traditional page based metaphor for browsing isn't so good for viewing large collections of photographs on a mobile device. Zurfer delivers a solution which is an image rich interface for traversing not only your photos but photos from you contacts and custom channels as well. The image driven interface makes it easy to quickly dig in and traverse the stacks from your favorites to your friends.Another interesting view that Zurfer provides is the ability to pull photos which were taken near your current location. Users can enter their location, or, if you happen to be running ZoneTag, Zurfer will do its best to reference location information from the user generated cell tower data base. Zurfer is the next step in the right direction in providing rich user experiences on the mobile device which leverage existing web services. Another project which brings users aggregated images based on their location is the Crowdscapes by Mike Bukhin. Cool stuff going on. Gets me excited!
Last minuet call for participation!
Tonight and tonight only I'll be giving a brief presentation of the MutherBoard project at Mobile Mondays New York open mic night. The 5-7 min talk will focus primarily of the mobile component but will go over the general concept behind the project as well. There are a few other great speakers lined up so I hope you can make it!
